The Enina Theatre Festival kicked off on August 29th, 2024, igniting a three-day extravaganza filled with theatrical performances, thought-provoking conversations, captivating art exhibitions, and hands-on workshop sessions.
Widely regarded as one of Nigeria's most significant theatre festivals, this highly anticipated event brings together the nation’s finest talents and international guest artists to showcase the best in theatre, dance, music, and comedy.
This year’s theme, "Roots and Routes," beautifully celebrates the richness of our cultural heritage and the transformative journeys that shape our lives.
The festival commenced in grand style with a vibrant carnival, featuring lively theatre troupes, energetic bands, enthusiastic students, esteemed guests, and dedicated volunteers, all dancing to the rhythmic beats of traditional songs. The procession moved from the Edo State Secretariat down to Ringroad—the heart of Benin City—before returning to the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Sound Stage, where the magic of the festival truly began.
The excitement didn't end there. The festival has seen a remarkable turnout, with people from all walks of life flocking to the Hub to experience an array of dynamic programs. Attendees have enjoyed captivating stage plays, interactive panel discussions, and practical workshops led by legendary actors such as Sam Dede, Joke Silva, and other distinguished industry figures.
For those curious about its origins, the Enina Theatre Festival was founded in 2021 under the visionary leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki. The festival was born out of a deep desire to harness the emotional and intellectual power of performance art, to preserve Edo's rich cultural heritage through the transformative medium of theatre.
With Enina leading the way, Edo State continues to shine as a vibrant cultural destination, celebrating its history while inspiring future generations.
Beautifully captured. Enina to the world!
